Wenzel Tundra Oversize Hollow Core -10-Degree Sleeping Bag with Hood

The product descriptions say this bag keeps you warm to -10 degrees F. It isn’t true. We froze in Yellowstone when it was down around 35 degrees, and when it dipped to 16 degrees we barely made it through the night–wearing long underwear, sweats, hats, and mittens. As soon as it got light we packed up and went to a hotel.
If you’re going to use it for cool nights, say to 50, it works quite nicely. If you’re not a polar bear-type, try something with a lot of down.

I really wanted to like this bag, but it was not to be.
I am 6’5″ tall, and finding a rectangular flannel-lined bag of this kind – that is long enough – is difficult. However, this bag is not in reality long enough for someone my size. On a recent trip to Northern California, I discovered this the hard way! The 90″ measurement is based on the overall length from the end of the bag to the tip of the hood.
Because of this design/measurement error, there was no way I could ever stretch out without my neck and shoulders being exposed! Despite the polypro underwear, I was never comfortable despite the fact that the temperature was around 32 degrees, and the bag is rated for -10 degrees. Basically, I burned up at the lower end and froze at the top! It’ a nice, warm bag if you’re not too tall, and I had no trouble with the quality.
A very roundabout way to say: If you’re over 6’4″, it’s too short!

Nice oversized sleeping bag. Very warm (almost hot) in thirty degree temps. This bag is very roomy and comfortable to sleep in. At 6’4″ I was looking for a new bag long enough to sleep comfortably, and this bag delivered.

We took the bags out this weekend for a trial run, and I am more than pleased with our purchase. The bags are warm, snuggly and over-sized. These are definitely not bags to be used for back-country excursions–car camping trips only. Extremely heavy and cumbersome, but perfect for our needs. The temps dropped into the upper-40s, and I never would have known. Comfortable, cozy and worth purchasing!

This sleeping bag is a little big and bulky, but if you need a nice warm one and can’t stand mummy bags like me, then this is the bag for you.
